Breaking Barriers: The Rise of Women’s Rugby at TackleLondon

Rugby has always been more than just a sport—it’s a community, a place of belonging, and a source of confidence. For the women and girls at TackleLondon, the game has been a catalyst for growth, inspiration, and making history.

One player recalls the excitement of stepping onto the pitch alongside other girls, experiencing the joy of playing in a space where they could be themselves, push their limits, and thrive.

“Rugby means quite a lot to me. It’s so much fun with all the girls because we create a space where we can enjoy the game and support each other. Since I started playing rugby, I’ve become much more confident in what I do.”

A landmark moment for the club was hosting its first-ever all-female match—a moment that signified progress and hope. “Seeing that match gave me a boost of confidence and made me feel like we were really starting something important. Watching the players on the field, I felt inspired. They became role models to us, and I wanted to be the same for the younger girls coming through. I want them to see that they, too, can have a place in rugby.”

Beyond the serious drive to succeed, rugby has also fostered a deep sense of camaraderie and joy. “We’re playing rugby and having fun, but we also get to laugh and enjoy each other’s company. There’s something special about that bond.”

The rise of women’s rugby at our club is about more than just matches—it’s about creating a platform for future generations, making space for women to shine, and proving that rugby truly is a sport for everyone. As our team continues to grow, we’re not just playing the game—we’re making history.
