Schools Praise the Impact of TackleLondon Coaching

At TackleLondon, long-term partnerships with schools sit at the heart of everything we do. Our coaches work week in, week out to create safe, inclusive and inspiring environments where young people can grow — not just as players, but as confident individuals.

Recent feedback from partner schools highlights the real difference this consistent support is making.

One school spoke highly of Lead Coach and Programme Coordinator, Aidan Brennan’s, role in building and strengthening their rugby provision, describing his dedication, expertise and belief in students as central to the programme’s success. Each week, Aidan brings energy and commitment to every session, working closely with pupils to help them develop both their skills and their confidence.

In particular, the school emphasised the positive impact of his work with girls’ rugby, noting how he ensures students feel included, supported and confident in every lesson. By fostering a welcoming and encouraging environment, Aidan has helped students not only improve on the pitch but also develop a genuine love for the game.

“His positive impact is clear through the team, and his contribution to rugby at our school has been amazing.”

The value of TackleLondon’s presence in schools was echoed more widely, with staff describing the coaching provision as a meaningful opportunity for both students and teachers to develop.

“We love having the coaching here – it is such an opportunity for both students and staff to develop.”

Positive feedback has also been received for Rhodri’s work with younger pupils. His sessions with Year 5 and 6 students have been well received, with schools praising his approach and expressing enthusiasm for the rest of the programme.

“Rhodri has been great so far this year, working with the Year 5 and Year 6 pupils. Looking forward to the rest of the programme.”

Free In-School Provision and the Bridge to Community Clubs

TackleLondon delivers free, weekly in-school rugby coaching designed to engage all pupils with structured, high-quality physical activity. Our programmes integrate into the school day so that every young person — regardless of experience or background — has the opportunity to benefit from sport. This model helps schools boost activity levels, support pupil wellbeing, and enhance students’ confidence and concentration. Research shows that physical activity in the school environment is linked to improved motivation, concentration and a more productive learning environment for pupils.

Importantly, our support does not end when the final school bell rings. TackleLondon actively encourages pupils to join after-school clubs and local rugby clubs in their area. By connecting schools with community clubs, we are building bridges that help young people transition from structured sessions in schools to ongoing sport participation. This pathway reinforces a sense of belonging, supports long-term engagement in physical activity, and strengthens community links — all of which contribute to better social and developmental outcomes for young people. Research indicates that participation in organised sport reduces attention problems and supports social wellbeing, particularly through team sport involvement.

After-school clubs also offer students additional time to socialise, build friendships and develop life skills such as teamwork, communication and resilience. These experiences complement academic learning and enrich a young person’s school experience. Studies show that structured after-school activities can promote self-esteem, confidence and a stronger connection to school life.

The Evidence Behind Sport and Attention

There is growing evidence that regular physical activity and participation in school sport is associated with enhanced cognitive function and academic performance. For example, studies have found positive correlations between active engagement in sports and improved attention, problem-solving and overall academic results.

A Shared Commitment to Young People

Feedback like this reinforces why TackleLondon exists: to provide consistent, high-quality mentoring through sport, and to work alongside schools to create environments where young people feel valued, capable and motivated to thrive.

We are incredibly proud of our coaches and grateful to our partner schools for trusting us to support their students. Through free in-school provision, meaningful after-school pathways and strong community connections, TackleLondon remains committed to building bridges that empower young people.
