Community in Action: Metropolitan Police Back TackleLondon with Kit Donation

TackleLondon’s school coaching team recently delivered another dynamic rugby session as part of our ongoing schools programme. This initiative continues to bring the values of teamwork, resilience and respect into the classroom and onto the pitch, giving young people across London a positive, inclusive sporting experience.

This session was made extra special thanks to a generous donation from the Metropolitan Police, who provided a substantial amount of top-quality rugby kit to TackleLondon. The new equipment has already made a difference, enabling us to expand our reach and improve the experience for pupils taking part in school rugby coaching.

One purpose of TackleLondon is to create accessible sporting opportunities that build confidence and connection among young people, many of whom are new to rugby. By partnering with local schools and organisations, TackleLondon continues to demonstrate how sport can be a powerful force for wellbeing, community and positive change.

“We were delighted to find that The Metropolitan Police had donated a substantial amount of top-quality kit to TackleLondon, which we have been able to use in our school coaching sessions. This has reminded us and our partner schools of the support that we have from our community friends at the Police Service, who frequently attend our school tournaments to cheer on our young people. We thank you.”

The continued partnership between TackleLondon and the Metropolitan Police highlights the importance of community collaboration, ensuring that every young person, no matter their background, has the chance to thrive through rugby.

Beyond their generous support through kit donations, community police officers play a vital role in TackleLondon’s ongoing work with young people. We regularly collaborate with officers who attend our school tournaments and festivals, including the annual Matt Ratana 7s TackleLondon Schools Cup, to cheer on participants and connect with families.

These partnerships help build trust, visibility, and positive relationships between the police and the communities they serve. When young people see officers engaging with them in a supportive, down-to-earth way, sharing in the excitement of sport, offering encouragement and celebrating teamwork, it helps reshape perceptions and build mutual respect.

Through these shared moments on the pitch and in the crowd, community police officers are seen as trusted allies invested in the growth and wellbeing of local young people.
